Lake Tahoe Destination Wedding at Rocky Ridge Beach//Matt + Jessica
Matt + Jessica came to me, or I came to them, in such a unique way. A super talented and good friend of mine, Whitney of Whitney Justesen Photo, came to me with a slight predicament. Whitney was getting married a week after Matt and Jessica, and was doing it all the way over in Scotland. Unfortunately legal issues got in the way and Whitney was required to be in Scotland a week early, meaning she needed help covering her couples day. I happened to have one weekend off in September and it happened to be Matt + Jessica’s wedding day. That was the first part to fall into place.
I showed up in Tahoe City, bright and early and a little nervous, and everything after that just came together. These two, with their humor and love, welcomed me into their day, making me feel apart of it all along. They both got ready in these darling cabins off Kings Beach, a place near to their hearts because family had been coming to these cabins since I think the 60’s! How special to watch them get ready for each other in a place memories have continued to make. Their small ceremony was held on Rocky Ridge Beach in Tahoe, a spot Matt had come to often as a child. It was intimate and special, memories of childhood and family mixing with new and the future. Everything was comfortable and classy, the entire day had the vibe of togetherness. And not just as a wedding coming together, but as a community coming together for Matt and Jessica, people were constantly reaching and hugging each other. I think my favorite part of the entire day though, was the wedding speeches. I know right, wedding speeches?! But truly, yes! Dad, sister and brother all spoke, each had me blinking back tears behind my camera and again I felt that intimate togetherness in this Lake Tahoe destination wedding.
And last, but not last, the last part to fall into place, was the fact that the night before, it had apparently pored in Tahoe. The power had gone down at the venue and a tent was quickly ordered to make sure it didn’t happen the day of. Matt and Jessica’s wedding day was bright and perfect. The only rain we saw on Rocky Ridge Beach was the droplets that fell during their golden hour session and even then it fell when the sun was still out. After I hugged Matt and Jessica goodbye, I got into my car and drove about a mile away. That’s when I saw the ground was wet and the tree’s dripping. Apparently it had rained everywhere BUT this lovely couples wedding venue. I mean, doesn’t it just seem like everything was suppose to fall into place? I would say so.
